Dan Harmon’s HarmonQuest renewed for third season

Dan Harmon has created a new community of sorts with his improv comedy series HarmonQuest— so much so that the animated live-action sitcom was greenlit for a third season. Production will begin Fall 2018 in Los Angeles with stars Harmon, Spencer Crittenden, Erin McGathy and Jeff B. Davis all set on returning. New episodes will then air on the popular streaming service VRV in 2019. “I think I speak for

Before ‘Rick and Morty,’ Dan Harmon Tried to Reinvent Acceptable Television with ‘Acceptable.TV’

The idea of entertainment as an entity separate from the internet is one that is for the most part dead. Every movie must have social media tie-ins, every book a video trailer, every TV show a second screen experience. For just a moment, imagine a strange, distant land called “Cable TV in 2007” — a […]

So that’s why it’s so powerful […]

‘Community’s Ghosts of Christmas

A Christian, Jew, pseudo-Scientologist, agnostic, atheist, Jehovah’s Witness, and a Muslim all enroll at a dysfunctional community college. How do they celebrate the holidays? No, this isn’t the setup to a particularly long-winded joke about religion or a public school Board of Education’s call to arms. Rather, this is an honest to goodness question posed […]

How ‘Rick and Morty’ and ‘BoJack Horseman’ Changed What Adult Animation Could Be

When I first saw ads for Rick and Morty on Adult Swim in 2013, the premise seemed pretty straightforward: Back to the Future, except Doc is an asshole (or a bigger one, depending on how you felt about him in the movie). Beyond the obvious similarities of the premise, Justin Roiland’s Morty voice seemed to […]
