The Bodega Boys are coming to Showtime. The comedy duo—comprised of Desus Nice and The Kid Mero—closed a deal with the premium cable network for their own weekly late-night show. Episodes of the half-hour show will be coming out in February 2019. The pair left their Viceland show Desus & Mero after two seasons. Deadline reported that Viceland tried to keep the comedians for more seasons, but the two were too excited

Frankie Shaw, Stormy Daniels, Rosie O’Donnell flash in SMILF season 2 trailer (Video)

The acronymal Showtime comedy SMILF will be back with new episodes very soon according to a trailer for the critical favorite’s second season. In the pop music-fueled trailer, we see flashes of Bridgette still trying to find her place in the world. As we flash between a fancy gala, a polo match, and a Wild West tourist stop, we hear star and creator Frankie Shaw say, “It’s like I’m living someone

Review: Erik Griffin, “AmERIKan Warrior” on Showtime

Erik Griffin played a Vietnam vet in Showtime’s I’m Dying Up Here, but his 2018 stand-up comedy special portrays him as a different kind of AmERIKan Warrior. “There’s a war on comedy and free speech, and I’m a soldier on the front lines,” G…

Review: Kirk Fox, “That Guy” on Showtime

Kirk Fox only really looks like That Guy when he’s sporting his mustache. Fox had more of a five o’clock shadow going on when he filmed his Showtime special in Santa Barbara during, and he realized that “that guy” not only refer…

Behind the scenes of Riki Lindhome’s one-shot long-take scene from Showtime’s “Kidding”

Showtime’s Kidding is a great series, a wonderful blend of comedy, innocence and pathos, as well as a perfect vehicle for Jim Carrey’s return to television. There’s a scene in episode three of the first season that’s especially fascinating to watch. It shows Riki Lindhome’s character watching Mr. Pickles’ Puppet Time (Carrey’s childrens’ TV show) […]

Showtime cancelled I’m Dying Up Here after two seasons

I cannot say I’m surprised. Or that anyone else is surprised to learn this week that Showtime had cancelled I’m Dying Up Here after two seasons. We saw four new Sacha Baron Cohen characters in his latest satirical stunt, Who Is America?, which debuted this past Sunday on Showtime. But a fifth character didn’t go over so well, as Baron Cohen found out last year and we only discovered this week, thanks to a California gun store owner who shared his […]

Who Is Sacha Baron Cohen Fooling In ‘Who Is America?’ On Showtime

When Sacha Baron Cohen first burst onto the scene with Ali G, Borat and Bruno on British television in 2000 (and then HBO in 2003), you have to remember what America was then. No social media. No hyper-awareness. When he filmed Borat, he could still fool most of the people most of the time, even […]

Sacha Baron Cohen stars in new satire series, Who Is America? for Showtime

It makes perfect sense in hindsight. We hadn’t heard or seen much of anything out of Sacha Baron Cohen since The Brothers Grimsby movie premiere in February 2016. Baron Cohen only goes into hiding when he’s in disguise, plotting his next satirical surprise on the world. And here it is. Showtime officially announced last week’s […]

Dave Flebotte talks inside comedy baseball of his Showtime series with Jim Carrey, “I’m Dying Up Here”

I’m Dying Up Here almost didn’t survive to a second season. Dave Flebotte, who with Jim Carrey created the Showtime adaptation of William Knoedelseder’s best-seller about The Comedy Store in the 1970s, told me over the phone last week that when Showtime gave them “a month to come up with what we would do in a second […]
